Mother saved her daughter from leopard: A scene unfolded on Sunday morning in the Pokhara block of Pauri district. 55-year-old Shobha Devi of Haluni village risked her life to save her 23-year-old daughter, Priya Negi, from the claws of a leopard.
The incident took place at 9:30 in the morning. Shobha Devi and her daughter Priya were cutting grass in the fields about 100 meters away, when a leopard hidden in the bushes attacked Priya. leopard, grabbing her in its claws.
Hearing her screams, the mother, who was cutting the grass about 20 meters away, ran and attacked the leopard with the same sickle she was using. The leopard tried to attack her as well, but Shobha Devi continued to attack. her courage force the leopard to retreat.
During the struggle, Priya sustained injuries on hands, legs and backs, but her life was saved. Mother and daughter returned to the village and informed about the incident. Priya was taken to the Community Health Center Naugaonkhal, where Nursing Officer Meena said that Priya was discharged after treatment.
Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj visited the hospital and inquired about the injured. He directed forest department officials to set up a cage to capture the leopard. Mukesh Panthri, senior deputy head of the Ekeshwar development block, said that leopard activity is increasing in the area.
Many villages in the Pokhara block—Shrikot, Lyuntha, Liakhal, Chopra, Kimgadi, Gwani, Salan, Jhalapani, Palidhar, and Kilwas—are experiencing leopard terror.
Five people have been killed and ten injured in leopard and tiger attacks in Pauri district in the past three months. In June, a leopard killed a villager in Mundiap village of Ekeshwar block. That same month, a tiger injured a woman in Halsi village in Dwarikhal. In August and September, leopards attacked children in Satpuli Malli and Srikot villages.
