New Delhi: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla described the breakfast meeting between Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar as “breakup on makeup session,” alleging the two leaders are attempting to hide their internal conflict. He claimed both leaders are acting only to show unity before the public. Poonawalla further said that their actions resemble a stage performance and accused them of ignoring real issues faced by Karnataka citizens. According to him, Karnataka’s people were not even considered during the discussion.
Poonawalla stated that he had witnessed their social media arguments earlier and compared them to film artists. He joked that the two leaders deserve awards for best actor and best supporting actor. He said the meeting was not about governance or policy but centred around political damage control. According to his statement, the main objective was only to maintain power and silence internal disputes. He claimed people’s welfare was never on the agenda.
According to BJP, the breakfast was used to display artificial unity under the pressure of the party high command. Poonawalla referred to previous comments from leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge, who admitted several issues had to be resolved. He highlighted how some members like Parameshwara called themselves potential Chief Minister candidates. He also mentioned statements by senior leaders like Veerappa Moily who complained about irresponsible leadership. BJP believes all these revelations point to deep-rooted internal disputes.
The Janata Dal (Secular) also attacked the Congress government over the controversy. In a social media post, JDS alleged that both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are focused on retaining power and controlling factional politics while completely ignoring core state problems. Their statement argued that the government came to power on false promises and has now turned into a divided house. The party claimed that power games and appointments have overshadowed people’s basic needs.
JDS claimed that leaders are busy guarding their political groups instead of working for the public. The post criticised them for hosting meetings for alliances, followers and high command approval but failing to address critical concerns. According to JDS, farmers are struggling without proper support price. They said that drought damage has affected rural livelihoods, sugarcane and maize prices have dropped and farmers are becoming financially unstable due to government negligence.
The party further alleged that thousands of government schools have closed down and infrastructure has deteriorated across the state. Rising expenses are burdening the common man. They claimed development work is ignored completely while leaders are busy in temple visits and power negotiations. JDS said that neglect of citizens has pushed Karnataka into crisis. Despite public distress, top ministers are involved in frequent meetings aimed at political balancing.
Political analysts believe that such statements from opposition parties could weaken public confidence in the state government. The controversy has sparked debate over leadership stability and governance efficiency. Critics argue that instead of focusing on policy reforms, ministers appear to be prioritising internal group management and alliance maintenance. Some experts suggest that further escalation could affect administrative functioning. For now, Karnataka awaits whether upcoming decisions will address core problems or continue power centric politics.
