New Delhi: Environment and social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for the last 20 days, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for medical care by Delhi Police on Saturday morning. Now the hospital has issued an official update regarding his health and said that due to prolonged fasting and dehydration, he has become very weak. However, at present his condition remains stable.

What information did the hospital give regarding health?

In the medical bulletin issued by Safdarjung Hospital, it was said that Sonam Wangchuk has been on continuous fast for a long time, due to which her body has become weak and dehydrated. According to doctors, his condition is currently stable, but continuous treatment and medical monitoring is required to bring the important parameters of the body back to normal level. The hospital team is constantly monitoring his health condition.

What appeal did the police make to the protesters?

Delhi Police said in a statement issued on social media platform However, the police completed the entire process with restraint. An appeal was also made to the protesters to vacate Jantar Mantar peacefully as soon as possible.

What instructions did the High Court give?

Two days ago, Delhi High Court, taking serious note of Wangchuk's health condition, had ordered that government doctors should conduct his medical examination daily. The court had said that the life of any person is paramount and if health deteriorates then necessary medical steps should be taken immediately. Following this order, he was admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors.

What is the whole matter?

Sonam Wangchuk is on a fast unto death since June 28 in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) movement. The agitators are demanding an impartial investigation into alleged irregularities in the NEET exam, deaths of students and action against the culprits. Apart from this, demand is also being raised for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Before being taken to the hospital, Wangchuk had said that during the hunger strike, about 20 percent of his body had become weak, but he was not going to back down from his demands.
