Sonia Gandhi Admitted To Ganga Ram Hospital In Delhi, Under Observation (X: @congress)
New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and party veteran Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, sources said on Tuesday.
The 79-year-old was taken in late Monday evening and is now under close medical observation.
Initial details from the hospital indicate that doctors are monitoring her health, particularly her respiratory system, with a chest physician overseeing her care. The admission is being treated as routine observation rather than an emergency, sources added.
Sonia Gandhi has dealt with chronic cough and breathing discomfort before, especially during periods of high air pollution in Delhi.
"It is a routine admission, but she has this problem of chronic cough, and she keeps coming for check-ups, especially with this pollution in the city," a hospital source told PTI, adding that she was admitted on Monday evening.
Sonia Gandhi has visited or been admitted to hospitals in the past for health checks and treatment. In mid-2025, she was in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for stomach-related issues and received care before being discharged in stable condition. She was placed in the gastroenterology department, where a team of specialists watched her health and treatment.
Just days before that, she was at a hospital in Shimla for tests after reporting discomfort and experiencing high blood pressure. These visits were all part of ongoing health monitoring by her medical team.
In February last year, the 78-year-old leader was also admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with stomach-related issues.
Her regular health check-ups and occasional admissions are familiar to her circle due to her age and ongoing medical needs.
At this time, the Congress party has not issued a detailed comment on her condition.
Hospital representatives have not yet released a medical bulletin.
