INS Tamal (Social media)
National News: The Indian Navy is going to include a new modern warship, 'Tamal,' soon to increase its strength. This frigate built in Russia will be commissioned in the Navy by the end of June. According to officials, 'Tamal' will be officially included in the service at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia, after which it will start its duty on the west coast of India by September.
The warship will be part of the western fleet of the Navy in Mumbai and is one of the four KRIVAK/TALWAR category frigates under the India-Russian dollar defense deal. Two of these four ships will be built in Russia, while the remaining two will be prepared with Russia's technology at Goa Shipyard Limited.
In December last year, INS Tushil was commissioned in Yantra Shipyard, which reached India in February. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh described it as a symbol of the expansion of India's maritime power and deep relations between India and Russia. Both 'Tamal' and 'Tursh' are advanced Krivak III category frigates, which will increase the strength of the Navy.
About 26% of the material and technology in 'Tamal' is from India, which is twice as much compared to the previous 'Tegh' category. It contributes to major companies in India like Bharat Electronics Limited, BrahMos Aerospace, and Nova Integrated Systems. It has several modern weapons, including BrahMos missiles, Shtille surface-to-air missiles, advanced gun systems, torpedoes, and rockets.
The deployment of 'Tamal' will strengthen India's maritime security and will further strengthen its grip in the Indian Ocean region. This is also a very important step for the Navy, which will establish India as a regional maritime force.
