Sunetra Pawar to script history as Maharashtra’s first woman Deputy CM today (X)
Mumbai: Maharashtra is getting its first woman Deputy Chief Minister today. Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar, will take oath as Deputy Chief Minister at 5 pm. This historic decision has been taken by NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will administer the oath. Sunetra Pawar is a Rajya Sabha MP. They have to be elected to the legislature. A big change is coming in the politics of Maharashtra.
The oath-taking will take place on January 31, 2026, at 5 pm. It will be held at Lok Bhawan or Raj Bhawan in Mumbai. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will administer the oath. The swearing-in will take place with fewer people. This is a formal program.
The post became vacant after the death of Ajit Pawar. NCP chose continuity of the family. Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare met. The decision was taken in the legislative party meeting. She will be elected leader in the meeting.
Sunetra Pawar reached Mumbai from Baramati. Her son, Parth Pawar, is with her. There will be a meeting of 40 NCP MLAs. The party finalized her name. She has the full support of the Mahayuti alliance.
Fadnavis said, "The government will support her. Sharad Pawar stressed on family unity. He said – There is no problem. Some leaders raised questions on haste. But the decision is collective.
She is associated with the Nationalist Congress and is currently a Rajya Sabha member. She is Ajit Pawar's wife. She belongs to the Baramati region. She will have to become an MLA or MLC in six months.
Ajit Pawar had Artha and other accounts. Sunetra can get everything except the Artha account. Cabinet changes will take place later. Right now the focus is on the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
