Supreme Court Allows Sale, Bursting Green Crackers In Delhi-NCR During Diwali

Supreme Court allows green crackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali: In a major development ahead of Diwali, the Supreme Court has allowed the sale and bursting of green crackers in the Delhi-NCR region from October 18 to 21, 2025. Notably, the order came just after the Delhi government moved the top court for a nod to the use of certified green crackers on Diwali.

It is to be noted here that the permission has been given from 6 am and 7 am, and again between 8 pm and 10 pm in the evening. 

What was previous order on Green crackers in Delhi-NCR?

While announcing the order, Chief Justice BR Gavai talked about the October 14, 2024, order when a complete ban on firecrackers was imposed by the Delhi government, which was later expanded to the entire NCR.

The court in its order stated that only green crackers certified by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) will be allowed on a trial basis.

Conditions laid out by the Supreme Court 

Meanwhile, some of the conditions laid out by the Supreme Court on use of green crackers are as follows:

• Permission granted to burst crackers only from 6 am to 7 am and 8 pm to 10 pm.
• The sale of firecrakers will be through designated locations identified by the district collector.
• There will also be a patrol team that will monitor the green cracker manufacturers as well as QR codes will also be uploaded on the website.
• As per the order, no firecrackers to be brought from outside the NCR region.
• As per the SC order, the pollution control boards will check the air quality till October 21, collect sand and water samples and submit the report.
• It also stated that license will be suspended if fake firecrackers found.
• The SC also stated that it will monitor the matter again after three weeks.
