TMC's Alifa Ahmed Wins Kaliganj Assembly By-Election by 1 Lakh+ Votes

Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Alifa Ahmed has won the Kaliganj assembly by-election in West Bengal with a margin of over 50,000 votes. She defeated BJP's Ashish Ghosh and Congress’ Kabil Uddin Shaikh. The by-poll was held following the death of former TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee expressed gratitude to voters and dedicated the win to the late leader.

Alifa Ahmed from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has won the Kaliganj assembly by-election in West Bengal, defeating BJP rival Ashish Ghosh by a huge margin of 50,049 votes.

According to data from the Election Commission of India, Alifa Ahmed secured a total of 1,02,759 votes. Her closest competitor, Ashish Ghosh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), received 52,710 votes. Congress candidate Kabil Uddin Shaikh managed to get 28,348 votes, while 2,502 votes were cast for NOTA (None of the Above). The by-election was held following the death of former TMC legislator Nasiruddin Ahmed.

Mamata Banerjee Thanks Voters for Their Support

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her heartfelt thanks to the people of Kaliganj for their strong support. In a social media post, she said that people from all communities and backgrounds came together to back the party through their votes.

She credited the victory to the party’s core values of "Maa, Mati, Manush" (Mother, Soil, People), and praised the efforts of local TMC workers who worked hard on the ground. She also dedicated the win to the late MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed, saying the victory belongs to the people of Bengal.

Other By-Election Results Across India

Alongside Kaliganj, by-elections were also held in other states. In Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party’s Gopal Italia won the Visavadar seat, while BJP’s Rajendrakumar Daneshwar Chavda took the Kadi seat. In Kerala, Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath defeated CPI(M)’s M Swaraj in Nilambur by a margin of 11,077 votes, delivering a blow to the ruling LDF government. In Punjab, AAP’s Sanjeev Arora secured a win in the Ludhiana West seat. These results show a varied political response from voters across different regions and reflect the ongoing shifts in state-level political dynamics.
