Howrah: Trinamool Congress Brahmananda Chakraborty from Udayanarayanpur in Howrah district of West Bnegal had been on the run for a while. Now, a video, in which the leader is seen hiding under a pile of sarees inside a government textile factory.
A video of the arrest of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in West Bengal's Howrah district is rapidly going viral on social media. To escape police, the TMC leader hid under a pile of sarees in a clothing store's storeroom, but he was unable to escape. His name had come up in cases tied to the 2021 post-poll violence in West Bengal.
He was then arrested, and footage and details of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident is reported to have taken place in the Bilaspur area of the Udaynarayanpur police station area of Howrah.
Local residents had accused him of allegedly taking "cut money" from government housing scheme funds and engaging in extortion. Following a complaint, police arrived in search of Brahmananda.
Brahmananda Chakraborty hid under a large pile of sarees inside a clothing store to avoid arrest. Police reportedly searched his home after they were told where he was. During the raid, it was reported that the police found him hiding under a collection of clothes and sarees in the house. He was then arrested, and footage and details of the incident went viral on social media.
A video of the entire operation is going viral on social media. According to sources, Brahmananda Chakraborty also faces charges related to the political violence that followed the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Police officials said that based on complaints from local residents, an investigation is underway into allegations of cut money against Brahmanand Chakraborty. All allegations against him related to the political violence that occurred after the 2021 assembly elections are also being investigated.
