Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has resigned from the Rajya Sabha and the party. Mamata Banerjee has suffered two major setbacks today. On one hand, Sukhendu Roy has resigned from the TMC. On the other hand, TMC leader Jahangir Khan has been arrested by the police.
Following the crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, former West Bengal Chief Minister has been facing one setback after another. First, Ritabrata Banerjee rallied more than half of the TMC MLAs to his side. Now, other leaders are also gradually abandoning Mamata Banerjee.
Sukhendu Sekhar Ray on Monday resigned from his post as a Rajya Sabha MP and from the primary membership of AITC.
In a press statement, he said that "The people have given a huge mandate in favour of the BJP for the first time in the history of the state to put an end to the 15-year anarchical rule of the TMC arising out of widespread unbridled corruption, atrocities committed against women, abysmal failure in the field of health, education, industry, law and order, employment, etc... In respectful acceptance of this historic verdict of the people, I have resigned..."
