TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Resigns From All Party Posts; Mamata Banerjee Lose One Of Her Oldest Aides (X)
Kolkata: Following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress is facing dissent from its own MPs and MLAs. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from all party organizational posts. In a letter to state Trinamool president Subrata Bakshi, the Barasat MP said she was stepping down after deep mental struggle and long contemplation.
Kakoli's resignation comes amid growing tensions between the senior leader and sections of the party leadership. Just a day before resigning, Kakoli attended an administrative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kalyani, despite the party reportedly informally prohibiting her from doing so. After the meeting, the Chief Minister claimed that Kakoli told him that she finally felt free.

In her resignation letter, Kakoli expressed concern over the party's functioning and cited several controversies that have plagued West Bengal politics over the past decade, including recruitment corruption, administrative irregularities, jail controversies, and the teacher recruitment scam.
She also mentioned the death of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, saying that the incident and alleged attempts to suppress the case had deeply disturbed society and affected it morally. The Trinamool MP also criticized the growing influence of the IPAC, alleging that unelected and undemocratic forces were increasingly influencing organizational functioning.
Following Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's resignation from the Nandigram seat, a by-election is scheduled for the constituency. The Trinamool Congress is struggling to find a candidate for the by-election.
Pavitra Kar has declined to be the Trinamool candidate in the Nandigram by-election. Many believe this decision is natural after the defeat in the assembly elections. Meanwhile, following Pavitra Kar's refusal, the Trinamool leadership approached Sheikh Sufian, a longtime face of the party in Nandigram, but he too declined the offer.
He said, "I contested from Nandigram in 2006. After that, no one from Trinamool has asked me to contest. I have no interest in elections now. I am retiring from active politics."
