TMC Split Row Deepens: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Invites Abhishek Banerjee for Hearing on June 19 (X)

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday invited Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee Abhishek Banerjee for a meeting on June 19 to hear his side of the party split dispute. 

What is the reason of meeting?

The development comes after a group of 20 rebel TMC MPs sought recognition as a separate parliamentary group following their merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).

About 20 rebel TMC MPs have demanded recognition as a separate faction after merging with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has decided to hear both sides before making a decision.

When will be the meeting?

According to sources, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has asked Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee to appear for a meeting on June 19 so that he can present his side on the split in the Mamata Banerjee-led party.

Has rebel MPs met Om Birla?

The rebel MPs have already met with Om Birla, while Mamata's faction has requested an appointment. Sources said that Birla will make a decision based on laws, rules, and regulations.

The Mamta faction wrote a letter to Om Birla, urging the Speaker not to recognise any rebel TMC faction in the Lok Sabha or grant them separate status.
