Mandi: A 22-year-old youth lost his life in the race to go viral on social media in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Aniket, son of the late Subhash Chand, resident of Nagchala village of the Balh area, lost balance and fell while doing a bike stunt near the Mallori Tunnel of the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane at around 1 am in the night. He died on the spot due to serious injuries. Aniket was a B.Tech student and regularly uploaded reels of dangerous bike stunts on Instagram. This addiction of his eventually became a curse for him.

Traffic police reached the spot

As soon as information about the incident was received, the team of Tourist and Traffic Police Station Nagchala reached the spot. Preliminary investigation revealed that Aniket was doing wheelies and other stunts at high speed. Suddenly lost control of the bike and fell after a heavy collision on the road. According to eyewitnesses, he died instantly due to a broken neck. He was immediately taken to Nerchowk Medical College, where doctors declared him dead. The video of the incident is going viral on social media, in which the horror of the stunt is clearly visible.

Taking the matter seriously, the police have taken immediate action. Additional Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Sagar Chandra Sharma said that other youths, co-riders, and videographers who were shooting the reel with Aniket have been accused in the FIR. He has been charged with abetment of the crime and negligence. Police have confiscated everyone's mobile phones, cameras, and footage. The digital evidence is being thoroughly examined to ascertain whether the stunt was pre-planned or not.

Case registered

The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash and negligent driving), and other relevant sections. The post-mortem of the deceased is underway at Nerchowk Medical College, the report of which will confirm the exact cause of death. The police have increased traffic control on that four-lane stretch and have decided to keep a strict vigil on stunting during nighttime.

This incident raises serious questions on the increasing tendency of youth to risk their lives in the blind race of social media. Experts say that risking life for likes and views is not only a legal crime but is also becoming a social threat. Aniket's family is in shock and is demanding strict action from the police.
