New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has detected 32 fake universities in the country, which are running in 12 states. This news is a big alert for students and parents. In the last two years, this number has increased from 20 to 32, which means the network of fake universities is spreading. UGC has clearly stated that these institutions are not recognized under the UGC Act and their degrees will not be considered valid at all.

In which new states have fake universities been found?

Recently, the name of one fake university each has come up in Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh. Especially at a place named 'Global Human Peace University' in Bengaluru, UGC has issued an alert - this university does not have any permission to run.

Why are there so many fake universities in Delhi?

A maximum of 12 fake universities are running in Delhi. These include names like the All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences, Commercial University Limited, United Nations University, Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment and Institute of Management and Engineering. Some are running near the regulatory office, which raises the question why is the monitoring so weak?

In which states does this problem exist?

Apart from Delhi, fake universities have also been found in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. There are several in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, such as Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth and the Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine in Prayag. Magic and Art University of Faridabad in Haryana, Daksha University of Ranchi in Jharkhand.

How do these fake universities lure students?

Experts say that these institutions offer the lure of quick degree awards, low fees and flexible courses. Many times foreigners pretend to be from universities or make false claims of international affiliation. There is no infrastructure, faculty or standards, just the business of making money.

What harm can happen to students?

After getting a degree from such a place, there is a problem in getting a job, further studies or a government job. The degree is not valid, years of hard work and money are wasted. Admission time is going on, hence UGC has again warned, "Check the list of recognized universities on the official website of UGC."

What is UGC saying and what's next?

UGC says that awareness is the best protection. They regularly release lists of fake universities, but still they continue. Students' parents are advised to check thoroughly before admission, otherwise their future may be in danger. This problem is increasing, the government and UGC will have to take stricter steps so that the future of the students is secure.
