New Delhi: One of India's most prestigious institutions, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has completed 100 years of its journey, and on this historic occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself became a part of this celebration. In this grand ceremony held on October 1 at 11 am at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, PM Modi explained in detail the role of the Commission and its important contribution to the administrative system of the country.

UPSC was established exactly 100 years ago, on 1st October 1926. To commemorate this historic achievement, a two-day centenary celebration 'Manthan' was organized at Bharat Mandapam. A special book, postage stamp and coin were also released on the occasion. Transparency, technology and challenges facing the administrative sector in the future were also discussed during the ceremony.

PM Lauds UPSC's contribution to nation building

In his address, Prime Minister Modi said that in the last 100 years, UPSC has continuously strengthened the fair and merit-based selection process for civil services. He said that the Commission has played an important role in identifying and grooming capable civil servants across generations, which has had a direct impact on India's development journey. The PM also added that UPSC has also adapted itself from time to time according to the changing needs of the country.

Celebrated 100 years of people's trust

Prime Minister Modi said that this centenary of UPSC is not just a celebration of the journey of the Commission, but also a symbol of the unwavering trust reposed in this institution by crores of Indians. He said that there were many changes in technology, government and examination system over time, but despite this, the Commission maintained the trust of the people. The PM also said that two basic principles should always be kept in mind while selecting candidates, the first is 'Nation First' and the second is 'Citizen First'.

The basis of the selection process of services like IAS-IPS

It is worth mentioning that UPSC is the largest body that selects qualified officers for the major administrative services of the country. It conducts and selects candidates for several other important services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS) through the Civil Services Examination.
