National News: A spine-chilling case has surfaced from Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, where a woman, in collaboration with her cousin brother-in-law, brutally murdered her husband. The duo first drugged the victim with sleeping pills and later electrocuted him to death. The murder, initially portrayed as an accidental death by electric shock, came to light after a revealing mobile chat exposed the gruesome conspiracy.
The deceased, identified as Karan Dev, resided in Om Vihar Phase-1 with his wife Sushmita Dev and their six-year-old son. Karan worked in a private company. On Sunday morning, Sushmita visited Karan’s parental home and claimed that he wasn’t waking up. When family members rushed to his residence, they found Karan lying unconscious on the bed. He was immediately taken to Maggo Hospital nearby, where doctors declared him dead.
Initially, the family believed Karan had died due to accidental electrocution, especially since an electric wire was found near his body. However, hospital doctors found the circumstances suspicious and alerted the police. Medical staff pointed out unusual indicators such as cellotape marks on Karan's fingers and chest, and froth coming from his mouth, raising red flags about the actual cause of death.
When police insisted on a postmortem, Sushmita and her cousin brother-in-law Rahul Dev strongly opposed the idea. Rahul emotionally claimed that he wouldn’t allow even a single incision on his "beloved brother’s" body. Despite their resistance, the police ensured that a postmortem was conducted.
The real twist came the next day, after the body was brought home post-autopsy. Rahul handed over his mobile phone to an acquaintance, who later passed it on to Kunal, Karan’s younger brother. The phone was found unlocked. While scrolling through it, Kunal stumbled upon a chilling chat between Rahul and Sushmita—which shattered his world.
The chat logs revealed a step-by-step account of the murder plot. Initially, Sushmita mixed sleeping pills in curd, but Karan didn’t lose consciousness. Later, they administered around 15 sleeping pills through food. When that too failed to sedate him completely, the duo moved forward with their backup plan—to kill him using electric shocks.
In the chat, Rahul instructed Sushmita on how to tie Karan’s hands and how to apply cellotape. Shockingly, Sushmita even video-called Rahul to show Karan’s deteriorating condition during the process. The messages further showed that they waited to see if he would die naturally before finally deciding to electrocute him when they noticed he was still breathing.
Following the revelations, both Sushmita and Rahul were arrested. Police are now interrogating the accused and conducting a detailed investigation to determine whether anyone else was involved in the conspiracy. The case is being pursued based on mobile evidence, call records, and other materials collected from the scene.
This tragic incident underscores how horrifying crimes can be when concealed behind the veil of relationships. A wife and her brother-in-law not only meticulously planned and executed a murder but also attempted to pass it off as a tragic accident. Yet, in this digital age, even the most carefully hidden secrets can surface—and this time, it was a mobile chat that blew the lid off a cold-blooded murder.
