Prayagraj: The Magh Mela in Prayagraj was hit by a fire incident on Wednesday with several tents gutted in the mishap. This was the second fire incident to hit the annual religious gathering within a period of 24 hours.

What happened at the Magh Mela?

A fire broke out in Sector 4 of the Magh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday. According to reports, the fire started in the camps located in the Sangam Lower area, affecting several tents, including those of the Brahmashram.

This is the second fire incident in 24 hours. Earlier, on Tuesday evening, a fire broke out at the Narayan Shukla Dham camp in Sector 5, destroying 15 tents and 20 shops. Amidst the chaos, approximately 50 pilgrims were safely evacuated by the police and fire brigade. Five fire tenders brought the fire under control. The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit.

How did the authorities respond?

Eight fire tenders immediately rushed to the spot, and after considerable effort, the fire was brought under control. Two tents were completely destroyed in the blaze.

However, there are no reports of any casualties in the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

What led to the fire?

The exact cause is still unclear, but the prompt response and timely action of the fire brigade prevented a major disaster. The administration and the fair organizers are now working to enhance security and vigilance following the incident. Relief and rescue operations are underway at the site.

What is the new initiative introduced this year?

During the ongoing Magh Mela, a new digital initiative has been introduce by the authorities to improve the experience of pilgrims. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a ‘Mela Seva’ app at the Mela Authority office auditorium.

The ‘Mela Seva’ app allows devotees to scan QR codes and directly submit their complaints or suggestions to the administration, thus making the Magh Mela more organised and convenient.

Security has been heightened across the city in view of heavy influx of deevotees.
