National News: For the past few days, Uttarakhand has been hit by heavy rainfall, severely affecting daily life. From the mountains to the plains, the impact is clearly visible. Roads are damaged, water has flooded several areas, and landslides have made travel in hilly regions very dangerous. People are facing major challenges in commuting and carrying out daily tasks.
Most parts of the state have been experiencing off-and-on rain for the last two days. In the hilly areas, heavy rains have triggered landslides and roadblocks. In the lower regions, rising water levels in rivers have created flood-like situations, especially in the Terai and plains.
On Wednesday, the Meteorological Department warned of more trouble ahead. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in six districts—Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Udham Singh Nagar. An orange alert has been issued for these areas. Additionally, places like Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat may also experience intense rain with thunder and lightning.
According to weather experts, some regions may continue to receive rain until Thursday. However, there is a possibility of slight relief after that.
In Dehradun, light rain started early on Tuesday morning. Although it stopped for a while during the day, by evening, heavy rainfall returned and caused waterlogging in many parts of the city. Roads were flooded, traffic was blocked, and shops remained closed.
Haridwar is facing an even more severe situation. Continuous rainfall since Monday evening continued until Wednesday morning without a break. The city received 305 mm of rain, the highest recorded rainfall in Uttarakhand this season so far.
In Dharali, a remote area in Uttarkashi, the situation has become very serious after intense rainfall. Local residents reported sudden water flow and falling debris, which could cause loss of life and property. Unfortunately, there is no weather station in Dharali to record actual data. The nearest stations in Harshil and Bhatwadi reported less than 100 mm of rainfall. Still, considering the conditions, the local administration is treating this as a disaster caused by excessive rain and has started investigations.
The state government and the disaster management department have issued alerts for sensitive and risky areas. People living near rivers or in landslide-prone zones have been asked to stay alert and avoid risky travel. Emergency teams are on standby, ready to take action if needed.
The ongoing heavy rain in Uttarakhand has once again reminded us of the risks of natural disasters. Whether in the hills or plains, people are facing difficult conditions. It is important for everyone to stay alert, follow official guidelines, and avoid any unnecessary movement until the weather improves.
