23 States Brace for Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Up to 80 km/h (Image X @ani_digital)
New Delhi: Monsoon is fully active in many parts of the country today, 21st August. The Meteorological Department has issued a big alert for today. The weather may worsen in 23 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal. In some places there will be torrential rains and in other places people will face problems due to strong storms and lightning. At some places, the wind speed can reach 70 to 80 kilometres per hour.
The maximum impact will be seen in Eastern India and Central India. There is an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam and the entire Northeast. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a danger of lightning along with thunder in these states. People have been advised to avoid standing in open fields, fields and under trees during inclement weather. The reason for this rain is the low pressure area formed in and around north-eastern Madhya Pradesh. Due to this system, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, UP and Bihar are cloudy and it is raining.
Delhi will be cloudy since morning with light to moderate rain and strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature in Delhi today is expected to be 35 degrees and the minimum will be 28 degrees Celsius. In Uttar Pradesh, there is alert in almost every district. There will be heavy rain in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Jhansi and Bijnor. There is a warning of winds blowing at a speed of 60 to 70 kilometres in some districts.
Heavy rains may occur in Bihar's Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar and Araria today. There may be problem of waterlogging in low lying areas. Weather will also be bad in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamshedpur and Deoghar of Jharkhand. There too, a thunderstorm alert has been issued along with heavy rain.
There is maximum concern in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Due to continuous rain, the risk of landslides and closure of mountain roads has increased. IMD has appealed to the travellers not to travel to the mountains unnecessarily. There is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in many districts of Jammu and Kashmir today.
There may be rain with strong thunderstorms in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and Ludhiana of Punjab. Many districts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will also receive rain with strong winds of 50-60 km. Farmers have been advised to take care of their crops and not leave the harvested crops in the open.
