IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For 13 States, Monsoon To Stay Active For Next 5 Days

New Delhi: Monsoon has once again gained momentum across the country. Normal life has started getting affected due to continuous rains in many states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over many parts of northwest, central and northeast India for the next four to five days. According to the department, strong winds may blow in many areas, there is a possibility of lightning and the risk of landslides has also increased in the hilly states. In such a situation, people have been appealed to remain alert and follow weather-related advisories.

In which states warning of heavy rain has been issued?

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains may continue for the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Apart from this, there is a possibility of good rain on different days in many areas of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Is there a risk of strong winds and lightning?

Along with the rain, strong winds can blow at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometres per hour in many areas. There is also a possibility of lightning along with thunder. The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay away from open spaces, trees and electric poles during bad weather. There is also a danger of landslides and rising water level of rivers in hilly areas.

How will the weather be in Delhi today?

Delhi and NCR may remain cloudy throughout the day on Tuesday. There is a possibility of light-to-moderate rain in many areas, while at some places there may be heavy rain. Due to strong winds, there may be a drop in temperature and people are expected to get relief from humidity. The Meteorological Department says that the rain may continue the next day also.

Which areas will receive more rain in Uttar Pradesh?

Rain activities will remain intense in Uttar Pradesh between July 21 and 26. An alert of very heavy rain has been issued in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri and surrounding districts. The effect of rain can also be seen in many districts of western Uttar Pradesh including Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar.

What is the forecast regarding the weather in Bihar?

Even in Bihar, the rain is not going to stop for the next few days. There is a possibility of heavy rain in many areas of Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Samastipur, Vaishali and Champaran. Due to continuous rain, waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic may be affected.

Why increased concern in Uttarakhand and Himachal?

Incessant rains in the hilly states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have increased the concern. There is a possibility of landslides in many areas. Heavy rain alert has been issued in districts like Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Dehradun, Nainital, Haridwar and Chamoli. Travellers and locals have been advised to take extra caution on hilly routes.

How will the weather be in Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir?

Rainfall is likely to continue in both eastern and western parts of Rajasthan. There may be thunderstorms with heavy rain in Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur and surrounding areas. At the same time, warning of heavy rain has been issued in many districts of Jammu and Kashmir including Srinagar, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban and Anantnag.

What advice do you have for fishermen and common people?

The Meteorological Department has warned of rough sea conditions in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea at present. An appeal has been made to the common people to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, exercise caution in waterlogged areas and follow the instructions issued by the administration.
