From Pauri Garhwal to Gorakhnath

Yogi Adityanath was born on 5 June 1972 in Panchur village of Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. His real name is Ajay Singh Bisht. He is number five among his seven siblings. His father, Anand Singh Bisht, was an officer in the forest department, and his mother, Savitri Devi, was a religious woman.

Simple life, high thoughts

Yogi received primary education in Uttarakhand and further studies from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, from where he took a BSc (Bachelor of Science) degree. He reached Gorakhpur for higher education, where his trend moved towards the Ram temple movement and saint life.

Lead house at the age of 22, made retirement path

In 1993, at the age of just 22, he said goodbye to worldly life and reached Gorakhnath Temple in 1994 and took initiation from Mahant Avaidyanath. He retired and it was from here that his spiritual and social journey started.

The youngest MP at the age of 26

In 1998, Mahant Avaidyanath declared Yogi Adityanath as his successor. The same year he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Gorakhpur and became an MP at the age of just 26. He won the Lok Sabha elections of 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014 continuously.

When the monk yogi reached the village to take alms

In 1997, Yogi Adityanath returned to his village, Panchur for the first time, but not to meet the family, but to take alms according to retirement tradition. The villagers gave them rice, fruits, and coins - it was a symbol of the lifestyle and sacrifice they adopted.

Renunciation, discipline and public service face

In 2017, Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and is still working in that post. His life is a live example of renunciation, discipline, and service. They do not celebrate their birthday themselves, but their supporters make this day memorable with works like social service, plantation, and environmental protection.
