Zubeen Garg Death Case: In a major move, police have arrested Zubeen Garg's cousin and Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Assam Police, Sandipan Garg, in connection with his suspicious death in Singapore. Sandipan Garg was present with the singer at the time of the incident and has now been taken into custody pending legal proceedings. According to the police, Sandipan was questioned several times over the past few days and is now being arrested and the judicial process is being completed. CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta told PTI, "We have arrested Sandipan Garg. We are now completing the necessary legal formalities."
This is the fifth arrest in connection with Zubin Garg's suspicious death. Previously, Shyamkanu Mahanta, the lead organizer of the Northeast India Festival, the singer's manager, Siddharth Sharma, and two of his band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta, have been arrested. All four have already been remanded in police custody.
Jubin's bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, told police that the singer was poisoned in Singapore by his manager, Siddharth Sharma, and festival organizer, Shyamkanu Mahanta. Goswami stated that "a conspiracy was hatched to present Jubin's death as accidental."
In the detailed grounds of arrest, Goswami also stated that Siddharth Sharma had asked him not to share the yacht videos with anyone. According to the note, Goswami alleged that Mr. Sharma and Mr. Shyamkanu Mahanta poisoned the victim and deliberately chose a foreign location to conceal their conspiracy. The four accused arrested in the case have been sent to 14-day police remand.
Zubin Garg, 52, died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. He was given a state funeral in Kamarkuchi, Assam. A second post-mortem report also attempted to allay any suspicions about his death.The investigation into this suspicious death was initiated due to public pressure, allegations, and to maintain transparency in the investigation. The Assam government has also formed a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.
