Ex-Pak PM Imran Khan Returns to Prison as Doctors Say He Can Safely Remain in Custody (Facebook)
Islamabad: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and PTI founder Imran Khan was sent back to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi from Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad on Friday after medical examination. After examining him, an expert team of doctors admitted that at present his health condition is not such that hospitalisation is necessary.
73-year-old Imran Khan was taken to a private hospital from Adiala jail late on Thursday night on the orders of the Supreme Court. A team of six specialist doctors did his medical check-up. After investigation, it was decided that he could be sent to jail again.
According to the report, doctors examined Imran Khan's health condition and found that he can continue treatment while in jail. After this, he was brought from Shifa International Hospital to Adiala Jail under tight security and sent to his cell.
Elaborate security arrangements were made before and after he reached the hospital. Senior officials of Islamabad Police had also come to take stock of the security arrangements of the hospital.
Amidst the continuous questions being raised regarding the health of Imran Khan, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the authorities to provide him specialist medical care. The court had also said that his personal doctor should be included in the medical examination.
However, the government had filed a review petition challenging this order. According to reports, the Registrar Office of the Supreme Court has returned this petition with some objections. Now the government can file it again after removing the objections.
Imran Khan's health concerns were further heightened in late January when he was diagnosed with a serious condition, central retinal vein occlusion, in his right eye. After this, he was taken several times to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad for treatment.
His family and PTI leaders say he should get better and specialist medical care. The government and the jail administration say that the medical report did not reveal any condition that would require immediate hospitalisation.
Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and several cases are pending against him. He has been calling these cases a political conspiracy, while the Pakistan government has rejected these allegations.
Despite his return from the hospital to jail, the issue of Imran Khan's health and his treatment remains in the politics of Pakistan. PTI has been continuously demanding better medical facilities and early hearing of their cases.
