Islamabad: In a series of operations in the Balochistan province, Pakistani security forces have killed at least 17 militants in response to the deadly train attack last week, the army said on Tuesday.
Security forces have launched a major military operation in Pakistan's Balochistan province and killed at least 17 insurgents in retaliation to last week's deadly train attack. Security forces also recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the hideouts of the slain insurgents.
The Pakistani army reported the entire operation on Tuesday and said that a large quantity of explosives and pre-fabricated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were seized from the insurgents.
The Pakistani Army said that this search operation will continue to eliminate militants from these areas. The anti-terrorism campaign will be carried out at full speed to completely eliminate terrorism from the country.
On May 24, terrorists bombed a shuttle train in the military area of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan and about 14 people were killed in the explosion. The banned organisation, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility for the train blast.
Pakistani security forces swung into action immediately after the train attack. According to the army, based on intelligence, a series of raids were carried out in Mastung, Nushki, Zehri, Khuzdar, and Kech districts of Balochistan. During these operations, security forces and insurgents clashed. The troops completely surrounded and attacked several insurgent hideouts.
The army reported that heavy and intense exchanges of fire continued for a considerable period. About 17 BLA militants were killed in the encounter. According to the army, the elimination of these insurgents has dealt a significant blow to the terrorist network operating in the area.
