New Delhi: India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been rushed to the ICU in Sydney, after a rib cage injury. His rib cage injury caused internal bleeding during the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia. The ace cricketer, suffered the injury during a catch, following which he was admitted to the hospital soon after returning to the dressing room. 

What eye witnessed said about Shreyas Iyer?

According to the statements of eyewitness, Shreyas Iyer, who completed a difficult running catch to dismiss Alex Carey, looked a bit in pain while clutching his left ribs. Soon, the medical team assessed the cricketer and then transferred him to the local facility for further examination.

The further reports of news agencies confirmed that Shreyas Iyer's subsequent scans mentioned the cause as internal bleeding, lead to the urgent hospitalisation of the ace cricketer. 

What are the latest developments?

An official sharing details about the further development said, “Shreyas has been in ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately.” 

What BCCI said about Shreyas Iyer's injury?

The official statement from the BCCI was released in connection with Shreyas Iyer's injury. The statement read, "Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.''

The statement further read, ''Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress."

What doctors suggested?

It is to be mentioned here that as per doctors, Shreyas Iyer will remain in the ICU for at least two more days. His stay in hospital can be further extended if the bleeding doesn't get control in the next 48 hours. As per doctors he will be kept under close monitoring for the coming week.
