Sports News: Record-breaking bids were seen in the auction of South Africa's T20 league SA20. During the auction in Johannesburg, 22-year-old Dewald Brevis was in the highest demand. Brevis had recently performed brilliantly in IPL and Australia, due to which all the franchises bid heavily on him. The Pretoria Capitals team placed the highest bid to buy him and Dewald Brevis became the most expensive player in the history of this league. Money also rained on Aiden Markram.
There was a great battle between the franchises in the SA20 auction for South African star batsman Dewald Brevis. However, the Pretoria Capitals team managed to win the bid. Pretoria Capitals spent 16 million rands i.e. Rs 8.06 crores to make Dewald Brevis a part of their team. With this, he became the most expensive player in the history of the SA20 league. Joburg Super Kings (JSK) started aggressively in the auction and soon the bid price crossed 30 lakh rands.
Mumbai Indians Cape Town and Paarl Royals also participated in the auction for some time, but later got out, then Pretoria Capitals took the bid forward. In the end, the Capitals defeated JSK in a tough tug of war.
South Africa's star batsman and T20 captain Aiden Markram also made history in the SA20 2026 auction. Durban Super Giants bought him for a record amount of Rs 7 crore, which is the second-highest bid ever in SA20. Markram, who has previously won the SA20 title twice for Sunrisers Eastern Cape, decided to enter the auction, which surprised cricket fans. Markram led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to two consecutive titles in 2023 and 2024 and also finished third in the 2025 season.
ODI's number-1 bowler Keshav Maharaj also became a part of Pretoria Capitals this time. Keshav Maharaj was bought by Pretoria Capitals for 1.7 million rand. There was a great competition between the teams in the auction for Quinton de Kock as well and finally Sunrisers Eastern Cape bought him for 2.4 million rand. Young fast bowler Kwena Mphaka joined Durban Super Giants for 1.6 million rand.
