Noida: India has seen scores of golden moments in the world of cricket history, but few of them stick in our memory for a lifetime as moments of catches that won the title of World Cup for its nation. So far Indian cricket history has seen three historical catches that gave India a World Cup title in between 1983 to 2025. These catches—by Kapil Dev in 1983, Suryakumar Yadav in 2024, and Amanjot Kaur in 2025—changed the course of matches and brought glory to millions of fans.

How Did 1983 Kapil Dev’s Catch Change Indian Cricket?

On June 25, 1983, at Lord’s, Viv Richards was standing between India and history. Madan Lal ran in to bowl. Richards mistimed his shot, and Kapil Dev sprinted backwards from mid-wicket, eyes fixed on the ball. When he clutched it safely, India’s dream was alive. That one catch by the Haryana Hurricane didn’t just dismiss Richards; it turned the tide of the World Cup final and changed Indian cricket forever.

What Made Suryakumar Yadav’s Catch So Special in 2024?

In the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, where the Proteas needed 16 runs off the final over in their chase of 177, David Miller was on strike. Hardik Pandya had the ball for the final over, and he started off with a wide full toss that Miller launched down the ground. Suryakumar ran to his left from long-off and grabbed an unbelievable catch on the boundary line. With one foot on the rope, he balanced, caught the ball, tossed it up, and then got it back inside to complete the catch.

Who Is Amanjot Kaur, and What Did She Do in 2025?

It was the biggest moment for the history of India's women's cricket in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 final at DY Patil Stadium on Sunday. India all-rounder Amanjot Kaur took a stunning juggling catch to get the wicket of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt. The latter was not only the top scorer of the match, with 101 off 98 runs on the day, but also the chart-topper of the entire tournament. Her effort lifted the team’s spirit and led India to its first Women’s World Cup title. Amanjot’s name joined the list of Indian heroes who changed the nation’s cricket history.

Why Are These Catches Remembered Forever?

These three catches—by Kapil, Surya, and Amanjot—represent India’s spirit, teamwork, and never-give-up attitude. Each came at a decisive moment, turning pressure into triumph. They remind every Indian that one moment of brilliance can make history and unite a nation in joy.
