IND vs ENG 3rd ODI: Big blow for India just before the toss as Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of the team (Pinterest)
New Delhi: Team India’s hopes of clinching the ODI series against England faced a serious setback right before the toss at Lord's. Star speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been sidelined from the third and final crucial encounter due to a sudden injury. Indian skipper Shubman Gill officially confirmed the development during the toss. Losing their premier bowler for a do-or-die match leaves a massive void in the attack, forcing India's younger bowling brigade to shoulder the pressure of a high-stakes finale.
Providing details on the injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official update regarding the pacer's availability. Bumrah reportedly hurt his left knee while fielding in the second ODI at Cardiff. The injury resulted in visible swelling, ultimately ruling him out of selection for the series finale today.
England’s captain, Harry Brook, won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bat first, noting that the surface looked solid for run-scoring. England made one tactical change, bringing in paceman Josh Tongue to replace Saqib Mahmood.
Meanwhile, India’s captain Shubman Gill admitted he would have chosen to bowl first regardless. Addressing the forced changes to the lineup, Gill stated, "Bumrah is not playing due to a knee injury. KL, Prince, and Arshdeep have come into the team."
With injuries disrupting the squad's core, the team management rolled out three significant changes to the playing XI. Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh returns to lead the pace unit in Bumrah's absence. In a tactical shuffle, all-rounder Shivam Dube misses out, handing an opportunity to Prince Yadav. The final change marks the return of KL Rahul, who steps in for Washington Sundar after the latter was ruled out of the entire series following an injury in Cardiff.
India (Playing XI):
Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill (c), Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Axar Patel, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna.
