In the third match of the ongoing T20 series between India and England, held at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, the Indian team faced a disappointing defeat. England posted a total of 171 runs, losing 9 wickets. India's response was underwhelming, as they could only manage 145 runs for 9 wickets. Despite winning the first two games, India now leads the series 2-1.
Chasing a target of 172, India’s start was rocky. Sanju Samson once again fell prey to a short ball, being dismissed for just 3 runs by Jofra Archer. Abhishek, who scored 24 runs, was caught by Archer off a delivery from Brydon Carse. Captain Suryakumar Yadav continued his poor form, departing for just 14 runs. Hardik Pandya was the top scorer for India, making a valiant 40 runs.
Before India’s batting collapse, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy had put up a brilliant performance with the ball. His spell of four overs disrupted England's batting lineup, as he took 5 wickets and restricted the opposition to just 24 runs in his spell. Chakravarthy dismissed top-order batsmen, including Jos Buttler, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer, showcasing his exceptional skill.
England, however, showed resilience with stellar batting performances from Ben Duckett and Liam Livingstone. Duckett scored a quick-fire 51 off 28 balls, including 7 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Livingstone contributed 43 runs from 24 balls, taking charge when needed.
