New Delhi: The biggest match of T20 World Cup 2026 between India and Pakistan is going to be held at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, but just before the match, a unique incident shook everyone. A big snake entered the dugout of the Pakistan team! This incident happened on Friday evening, when the team had come for practice.

How did the snake reach the dugout and what happened?

When the Pakistan team reached the stadium for practice in the evening, a big snake was seen in the dugout. It was about 4 feet long and was a non-venomous rat snake locally called 'Garandiya.' The players of the team were not yet sitting in the dugout, but everyone was shocked to see this. The ground staff immediately took action, caught the snake safely, put it in a bag and took it out. There was no injury or panic, just the alert mode turned on for a while.

Did this delay the match or affect the preparations?

There was no impact on the match schedule. The staff rechecked the area, cleared everything and the practice went on as normal. The organizers said that this is just a matter of nature, such snakes are common in drains and stands in Colombo stadiums. Security was already high (due to India-Pak match), now it has become tighter, but the match will be on time on Sunday.

Why did the video go so viral?

The name of the India-Pak match is enough – every small thing trends. As soon as the video of the snake came, people started making fun. Someone said, “Pak team has got a new member”, while someone else said, “He had come from Bangladesh in support”. It brought back memories of old cricket incidents where dogs, birds or other animals had entered the field. But a snake in the dugout just before such a big match – that was a different level of drama!

Have such animals appeared in cricket before?

Animals have come on the field many times in the history of cricket – a dog catches the ball, a pigeon flies, sometimes a monkey. But seeing a snake enter the dugout before such a high-profile match is rare and interesting. This incident shows that unexpected things can happen even in big events.

What message was received from this incident?

This shows how prepared and professional the staff is. From snake removal to security check, everything was smooth. The excitement of the match did not diminish, rather this incident became the extra spice before the match. Now we just have to see what wonders happen on the field – with bat and ball or some other surprise.
