India Announces Test Squad for West Indies: Shubman Gill Captain, Jadeja Vice-Captain, Major Player Exits

Having earned 28 out of the maximum of 60 available points for five Tests, India are third in the WTC points table, with 46.67 percentage points.

India Squad for West Indies Test: The BCCI has announced India’s squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. Shubman Gill will lead the team for the first time in a home Test series, while Ravindra Jadeja has been named vice-captain in place of the injured Rishabh Pant. The selectors have made big changes — Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akashdeep, Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj have been dropped, while Devdutt Padikkal and Axar Patel make a return. Sarfaraz Khan has once again missed out on selection.

India’s Test Team:

Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav and Narayan Jagadeesan.

Schedule of the India–West Indies Series

The two-match Test series between India and West Indies will begin on October 2. The first match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second Test match will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10. Before the start of the series, West Indies coach Darren Sammy has indirectly challenged Team India. He said that if New Zealand’s team can beat India at home, then they can do the same.

West Indies Test Team:

Kevron Anderson, Alick Athanaze, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Brandon King, Roston Chase (captain), Justin Greaves, Khary Pierre, Jomel Warrican, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Anderson Phillip and Jayden Seales.

India vs West Indies Head to Head In Test

So far, 100 Test matches have been played between India and West Indies. India has won a total of 23 Tests, while West Indies has won 30. A total of 47 Test matches between the two have ended in a draw. India has defeated West Indies in nine consecutive Test series. The last time West Indies won a Test series against India was in 2002. To understand India’s dominance over West Indies, note that in three of the last five Test series, Team India has inflicted a clean sweep on the Windies.
