Raipur: The second match of the five-match T20 series between India and New Zealand is being played on Friday at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The Indian team won the toss against New Zealand on Friday and elected to bowl first. This decision by Suryakumar Yadav proved quite costly in the initial overs of the powerplay, as New Zealand's opening batsmen, Devon Conway and Tim Seifert, played aggressive shots and scored 43 runs in three overs. Arshdeep Singh was particularly expensive during this period, conceding a large number of runs. Arshdeep gave away 18 runs in his very first over, which has now become the joint most expensive first over bowled by an Indian bowler in T20 International cricket.
This unwanted record is also held by Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He set this embarrassing record against Ireland in 2022. Ireland's Paul Stirling had scored 18 runs in his first over. In Arshdeep's over, New Zealand opener Devon Conway batted aggressively. The over included three fours and a six, with a misfield (by Ishan Kishan at cover-point) also contributing to the runs. Conway hit boundaries on the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth balls of the over, giving New Zealand a fantastic start to the powerplay.
India has made two changes. Jasprit Bumrah has been rested, while Axar Patel is out due to injury. Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav have been given a chance in the second match. New Zealand has made three changes, with Tim Seifert replacing Robinson and Matt Henry coming in for Kyle Jamieson. Christian Clarke is also out, and Zachary Fox has been included in his place.
