Raipur: Team India failed to defend even 359 runs in the second ODI played in Raipur. South Africa achieved the target by losing 6 wickets in the last over, leveling the three-match series 1-1. Aiden Markram scored a century for the visiting team, while Dewald Brevis and Matthew Breitzki scored half-centuries.
India made a big score with centuries from Kohli and Gaikwad
South Africa got off to a poor start, but Markram steadied the innings.
The visitors lost their first wicket in the fifth over. Aiden Markram and captain Temba Bavuma then forged a partnership of over 100 runs.
Corbin Bosch secured the win
South Africa had lost their top batsmen by 322, but Corbin Bosch scored the 37 runs needed to secure a thrilling victory. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna took two wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana each took one wicket.
Poor fielding and extra runs proved costly.
Despite defending 359, India's poor fielding spoiled the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped an easy catch off Markram, who was on 59. Several fours were misfielded. An overthrow and a wide in the death overs gave away 11 runs, which changed the course of the match.
Kohli scores his 53rd ODI century
Virat Kohli reached his century in 90 balls. This is his 53rd ODI century. His total centuries in international cricket has reached 84. The third and decisive ODI of the series will be played in Visakhapatnam on December 6.
