New Delhi: Following the Lucknow Super Giants' first defeat in IPL 2026, a video featuring owner Sanjiv Goenka has gone viral. In this video, he is seen conversing with captain Rishabh Pant and the support staff. Fans have drawn comparisons between this video and the incident involving KL Rahul during IPL 2024. On that occasion, Sanjiv Goenka had publicly reprimanded KL Rahul right on the field after losing a match.
While it remains unclear what Goenka discussed with Pant this time, fans argue that he should not be speaking to a player in such a manner on the field. Consequently, he is facing significant criticism over the matter. Meanwhile, another post from him has surfaced, which he shared following the Lucknow Super Giants' defeat.
In this post, however, Sanjiv Goenka appears to be boosting his team's morale. He promised the fans that his captain, Rishabh Pant, and the entire team would make a strong comeback in the tournament.
Sanjiv Goenka wrote on X: "It is a long season, and moments like these are part of the journey that defines us. I have complete faith in my captain and team that they will respond with resilience. To our fans: thank you for your support at Ekana today; we will come back stronger. The story of the Lucknow Super Giants in this season is yet to be written."

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant, speaking after the match loss, said: "We couldn't build any substantial partnerships while batting. The plan was for (Nicholas) Pooran to come in at number five and take charge during the middle overs. We needed a player who could add some runs as an 'Impact Player,' because we didn't have enough runs on the board despite it being a good pitch. We had assigned a specific role to Ayush Badoni—to make an impact in situations where our early wickets fell quickly. The new ball was offering a lot of assistance, but you simply cannot put pressure on the opposition when you've only scored 140 runs (141 runs). Even those 20 extra runs would have made a huge difference for us."
