IPL 2026: RCB Ride Batting Fireworks To Defeat Mumbai Indians In High-scoring Clash

Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in a high-scoring IPL 2026 encounter on Sunday. Batting at the Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a total of 240 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, and Rajat Patidar.

In reply, Rohit Sharma and Ricketson provided a strong start for Mumbai; however, after Rohit retired hurt, Mumbai's innings faltered, and they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Desperate for a breakthrough, Mumbai Indians finally handed the ball to Shardul in the 11th over. Shardul delivered the first wicket by having Salt caught by Hardik at cover, thereby breaking the opening partnership.

Patidar then capitalized on some ordinary bowling to notch up a half-century. He began his innings by lofting a Shardul delivery over cover for a four, and subsequently made full use of Markande's poor line and length, smashing the leg-spinner for three consecutive sixes. In a blistering display, Patidar raced to 34 runs off just nine balls.

Mumbai deployed Shardul with instructions to bowl wide outside off-stump, but he failed to execute this strategy on most occasions. Following Salt's aggressive start and Patidar's explosive batting in the middle overs, Kohli found the opportunity to complete his own half-century. However, he was dismissed in the 15th over immediately after reaching the 50-run mark off 37 balls.
