New Delhi: Big news related to Indian cricket has come to light amid the ongoing Lanka Premier League LPL 2026 in Sri Lanka. Manjot Kalra, a member of India's 2018 Under-19 World Cup-winning team and co-owner of LPL team Jaffna Kings, has been arrested in an alleged corruption case.

What are the charges against Manjot Kalra?

The Special Investigation Unit of Sri Lanka Police, SIU, arrested Manjot Kalra. SIU investigates corruption cases in sports. The agency alleges that Manjot contacted a player and tried to instigate him to match-fix. During the investigation, the name of another Indian citizen Yuvraj Pushpa also came to light. After this he was also taken into custody. Right now both are being interrogated and other facts related to the case are being collected.

After the arrest, Manjot Kalra and Yuvraj Pushpa were presented before the magistrate. The court has ordered to send both of them to judicial custody till July 31. Investigating agencies say that further action will be taken on the basis of inquiry and evidence. The investigation is still going on, so it is too early to reach any conclusion.

What did Sri Lanka Cricket say?

After the arrest, Sri Lanka Cricket SLC has made it clear that this case will not have any impact on the organisation of LPL 2026. The board says that it will provide full cooperation to the investigating agencies and is committed to conducting the tournament with complete transparency and honesty. SLC once again reiterated that there is absolutely no room for things like corruption, wrongdoing or match fixing in this league.

What steps are being taken to stop corruption?

Sri Lanka Cricket said in the statement that its Anti-Corruption Unit is continuously working closely with government investigative agencies and the SIU. According to the board, all security arrangements have been made to conduct the tournament as per international standards. It was also said that if the role of any person is found suspicious then strict action will be taken against him.

In 2018, when India's Under-19 team won the World Cup, Manjot Kalra scored a century in the final which people still remember. His name became a household name with that one innings. Later, he took a break from active cricket and went towards business. This year, news came that he has become the co-owner of LPL team Jaffna Kings.
