'Pained by Gill's crime', says Yograj Singh (Social Media)
Former cricketer Yograj Singh has expressed his disappointment towards Shubman Gill's dismissal. Gill, who scored an astonishing double century in the Edgbaston test, has faced some harsh words from the ex-Indian cricketer. India's test captain, Shubman Gill, might well have played a match-defining knock, but Yograj feels otherwise. He says that Gill should have remained not out. Gill's record-breaking innings of 269 has put the ball in India's court, and now, they are the favorites to win this test match. Yograj also said that even Yuvraj (his son and former Indian cricketer) is 'hurt' by his Shubman's dismissal.
The former Indian all-rounder Yograj Singh feels that it is a 'crime' to get out when the batter is well set. He feels that Gill should've gone on to score a triple century and remain not out. He also said that even Yuvraj Singh was pained by Gill's crime of throwing away his wicket. He said, “I am glad that whatever Yuvraj has achieved in his life, he is giving it back to the players by coaching them. Gill, Abhishek, and Arshdeep have been his trainees. When Shubman Gill was batting on 200, I wanted him to remain 250 not out. But when the batter gets out, then I am pained."
"Yuvraj is also feeling the same. He has realized that getting out after such a big score is a crime. When you are 200 not out, 250 not out, 300 not out—when you have not out against your name—then all your mistakes are improved," he told the ANI.
After being appointed as India's test skipper, Shubman Gill has faced a lot of criticism. Pointing towards Gill's critiques, Yograj said, "A lot was being said about Shubman Gill. To them, I just want to say… Please, if you haven't played cricket, don’t talk about it.’ Gill has worked on his top hand,” Yograj said to ANI. Gill's century in the first test, followed by a double ton in Edgbaston, has certainly silenced everyone who doubted his caliber.
Adding to his opinion, Yograj said that our batters can also score 500, just like Brian Lara did. He said, "Yuvraj knows how to make players. Players should learn from Yuvraj and Gautam Gambhir. They will scold players too, irrespective of how many runs you’ve scored or wickets you’ve taken. Sachin Tendulkar used to scold himself. Sunil Gavaskar would leave the nets if he got out. People become great because even when they play big innings, they go back and reflect on it, examining what they did wrong. Gill can achieve greater things. He could score 300, 400… If Brian Lara can score 500 not out, then we can too.”
