Shubman Gill replaces Rohit Sharma as India's ODI captain: In a latest development, Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's new ODI captain and will take over the captaincy charges from Rohit Sharma for the forthcoming three-match ODI series to be held in Australia. Interestingly, this will be Gill's first series as captain of the ODI side. Notably, he has previously captained the Test and T20I sides.
Indian cricket team is all set to travel to Australia for the full white-ball series, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is. The ODI series is scheduled to start from October 19. Notably, in the ODI series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made a comeback to the national team after a period of seven months.
Earlier, a report of the Indian Express on Saturday (October 4), stated, Gill will be the captain of India in the upcoming three-match ODI series scheduled against Australia. Meanwhile, Rohit and Virat Kohli will be part of the team.
“Gill’s appointment is likely after the selectors spoke to the Test skipper, informing him that, keeping the big picture in mind, they wanted him to captain the side for the ICC World Cup in 2027 to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Gill also attended the selection meeting on Saturday," Indian Express reported.
