Former Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane has received a reprieve as Nepal's Patan High Court acquitted him of rape charges. This decision paves the way for his participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, marking a turning point in his tumultuous journey. After the court's ruling, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has reinstated Lamichhane in the national team for the T20 World Cup. This reinstatement will provide the much needed boost in Nepal's bowling lineup.

Lamichhane's ordeal began when he faced accusations of rape from a 17-year-old girl in September last year. After the accustaions, a Kathmandu court sentenced him to eight years in prison earlier this year. However, Lamichhane appealed this verdict, leading to his eventual acquittal by the High Court.

During this turbulent period, Lamichhane found himself in the West Indies, participating in the Caribbean Premier League. However, when the arrest warrant was issued, he absconded, prompting a search by Nepal Police with the assistance of Interpol. Eventually, Lamichhane was apprehended upon his return to Kathmandu.

With legal hurdles behind him, Lamichhane's focus now shifts back to cricket. His inclusion in Nepal's T20 World Cup squad adds depth and experience to the team led by Rohit Paudel. Nepal is set to kick off their campaign against the Netherlands on June 4, bolstered by Lamichhane's presence.
