Indian pace sensation Mohammed Siraj is back at the top of the list of bowlers in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings after his spectacular performance in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Siraj at top

This is the second time that Siraj is at the top of the list. Siraj reached the top position in January this year and was downgraded by Austraila’s Josh Hazlewood in March. Siarj climbed eight positions in the latest ranking following his Asia Cup performance, scalping ten wickets at an average of 12.20. His match-winning spell in the final helped India clinch the title by bundling up hosts Sri Lanka for just 50 runs.

Keshav Maharaj achieves career-best rankings

The latest weekly rankings update, which takes into account performances in the final two games of the South Africa versus Australia series and the England versus New Zealand series aside from the Asia Cup, comes just over a fortnight before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. South African spinner Keshav Maharaj is another significant mover in the bolwers ranking.

Despite losing the first two games of the ODI series, Maharaj helped South Africa win the remaining three games to become just the fifth team to do so. Maharaj’s four for 33 in the series final game helped him finish with eight wickets and move up to position 15, ten spots higher than his previous career high.

Other bowlers, including Afghanistan spinners Mujeeb-ur Rahman and Rashid Khan, move up two places to fourth and three places to fifth. English all-rounder Chris Woakes moves up to eleventh place, while South African Lungi Ngidi is in the twenty-first position. Austraila’s Josh Hazlewood is in second and New Zealand’s Trent Boult is in third.

Chinamen bowler Kuldeep Yadav has dropped three places from sixth to ninth position. He took five wickets at the Asia Cup with an average of 11.44.

Klaasen in top 10

South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and England’s left-handed batter Dawid Malan are major movers in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for batters. Malan is in a career-best 13th position after scoring 277 runs in the three matches he played in the series, while Klaasen is in the top 10 for the first time thanks to his career-best 174 against Australia in Centurion.

In the batter’s ranking, Ben Stokes has climbed 13 ranks to take over 36th place after England’s highest-ever score of 182 at The Oval.
