New Delhi: Bangladesh was disqualified from the T20 World Cup 2026 by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the Bangladeshi team had refused to travel to India for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 and demanded that their matches be shifted to Sri Lanka. The ICC did not accept Bangladesh's demand and gave them a 24-hour ultimatum. When the Bangladeshi board failed to respond, the ICC took strong action and selected Scotland as the replacement team for the T20 World Cup 2026.

What was Pakistan’s reaction?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is quite upset after Bangladesh's exclusion. The PCB had initially threatened to boycott the tournament. The ICC warned that if they took such a step, strict action would be taken against them. Fearing action from the ICC, the Pakistan Cricket Board quietly announced its team for the T20 World Cup.

Will the Pakistan team not play the match against India?

However, Pakistan's drama is not yet completely over. According to a Geo Super report, Pakistan may boycott the group match against India in the T20 World Cup. They are seriously considering this. This match is scheduled to be played on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Pakistan wants to protest against the ICC's decision, which eliminated Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup and allowed Scotland to enter.

According to repors, the Pakistan Cricket Board is considering several options for protest, and the team may still participate in the tournament. If Pakistan does not play the match against India, it will only lose two points, but the ICC may suffer financial losses. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will meet with the team to discuss strategy and future plans. Naqvi said that the final decision will be taken only after consultation with the federal government.

What was PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi's threat?

Mohsin Naqvi had said that the final decision would be announced after consultation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Criticizing the ICC, Naqvi said, "Injustice has been done to Bangladesh, and this should be considered a 'double standard'. I said the same thing in the International Cricket Council's board meeting."

Naqvi also questioned the influence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in this ICC decision. "Bangladesh is also a member of the ICC, just like Pakistan. One country cannot dictate to another. If this is done, Pakistan will clarify its position," Mohsin Naqvi said.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi may make a big announcement regarding Pakistan's participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 at a press conference. A crucial meeting was held between Naqvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Monday. In this meeting, Naqvi informed the Pakistani Prime Minister about the entire matter, accusing the ICC of adopting 'double standards'. According to sources, Mohsin Naqvi stated in the meeting that the ICC had offered India an alternative venue despite their refusal to play in Pakistan during the 2025 Champions Trophy, while Bangladesh was excluded from the tournament altogether due to security concerns about playing in India, and Scotland was included in their place.

What is Pakistan’s schedule at T20 World Cup 2026?

According to the scheduled fixtures, Pakistan will begin their campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 7.  The Pakistani team will then face the USA on February 10, India on February 15, and Namibia on February 18. The Super 8 stage matches will be played from February 21 to March 1, while the semi-finals will be held on March 3 and 5. The final will be played on March 8 in either Ahmedabad or Colombo.

The Pakistani team will be captained by Salman Ali Agha in the T20 World Cup. Babar Azam, who is currently struggling with poor form, is also part of the team. However, experienced players like Haris Rauf and Mohammad Rizwan are absent from the squad. Shadab Khan, Khawaja Nafay, and Usman Tariq have also been included in the squad. The Pakistani team will play all their group matches in Colombo.
