Kolkata: India defeated West Indies by five wickets to enter the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 in style. Riding on Sanju Samson's record-breaking 97, they defeated the West Indies by five wickets in a Super 8 Group 1 clash. Batting first at Kolkata's historic Eden Gardens Stadium, the West Indies scored 196 runs. In response, India achieved the biggest victory (run chase) in T20 World Cup history, thanks to Sanju Samson's record-breaking innings. In 2014, India had chased down South Africa's target of 173 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took the most wickets, with the Indian team taking on England in the semi-final on March 5th at the Wankhede Stadium.
The semi-final clash between India and West Indies took place at the same Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. India scored 192 runs on the basis of Virat Kohli's unbeaten 89 and Rohit Sharma's 43 runs. In reply, West Indies won the match in 19.4 overs. For them, Lendl Simmons top scored with unbeaten 82, Andre Russell made 43 and Johnson Charles played an explosive innings of 52 runs. Host India could not reach the final, whereas West Indies achieved the honour of becoming the world champion by defeating England on 3 April 2016 in Kolkata. Not only this, the Indian team also forced West Indies to lose for the first time on the same ground exactly 10 years later.
