Aligarh: Team India star Rinku Singh conducted the funeral procession of his father, Khanchand Singh in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh on Friday.  Cricketer Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand Singh, passed away at around 4:36 a.m. on Friday. He was 60 years old and suffered from stage 4 liver cancer. His health deteriorated a few days ago, after which he was admitted from Aligarh to a private hospital in Greater Noida.

How did the tragedy unfold?

He was placed on ventilator support there. The body was brought to Aligarh. Rinku left the T20 World Cup and returned home to Aligarh from Chennai. He shouldered his father's bier. After the final journey, the last rites were performed at the Shankar Vihar crematorium. His eldest son, Sonu, lit the funeral pyre.

Earlier, upon receiving news of his father's deteriorating health, Rinku Singh left Team India on Tuesday and arrived in Noida. He had to miss a practice session for the T20 World Cup. On February 25, Rinku returned to Chennai and rejoined the team.

However, he was not part of the playing eleven in the Super 8 match against Zimbabwe in Chennai on February 26. He was fielding on the field as a substitute. Many former cricketers including Yuvraj Singh and IPL team KKR expressed grief over the demise of Rinku's father.

Toofani Saroj, father of Rinku's fiancée and Machhlishahr MP Priya Saroj, spoke to Dainik Bhaskar over the phone. He said, "Priya has been with Rinku's family for several days. We also went there at night. While returning, we got the news of his death on the way."
