Islamabad: The ICC's decision to exclude Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup has also angered Pakistan with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi raising serious questions about the International Cricket Council (ICC). Speaking to the media in Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi said that Bangladesh has been treated unfairly and the ICC should not adopt double standards.
Mohsin Naqvi revealed that he had raised this issue during the ICC board meeting. He said, "I clearly stated in the ICC meeting that you cannot have double standards. You cannot have one decision for one country and a different decision for another." He emphasized that Bangladesh should definitely play in the World Cup, as it is a major and important stakeholder in the tournament.
The PCB chief said that both Bangladesh and Pakistan are equal members of the ICC and cannot be treated differently. He said, "Bangladesh is a member just like Pakistan. If you have given priority to India in Pakistan's case, then the same approach should be adopted in Bangladesh's case."
Mohsin Naqvi also said that no single country can impose its decision on another country. He warned that if this happens, Pakistan will stand firm on its position. He said, "One country cannot dictate to another country. If this happens, Pakistan will remain steadfast in its position."
The PCB chief also highlighted the crucial role of the Pakistani government. He said that if Pakistan says it will not play in the World Cup, then the ICC should consider including a 22nd team. He clarified that this decision would be made by the Pakistani government, and the final decision would also rest with the government.
Questioning the ICC's role, the PCB chief said that Pakistan trusts its own government more than the ICC
"This is a decision of the Pakistani government, and the final decision will also be taken by the Pakistani government. We trust the Pakistani government more than the ICC," Mohsin Naqvi said.
He also added that Pakistan has several options to deal with every situation. "We have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, and Plan D, so there's no need to worry," the PCB chief said.
These statements by Mohsin Naqvi have sparked a new debate in international cricket. Discussions have intensified regarding Bangladesh's World Cup future, the ICC's impartiality, and the rights of member countries. All eyes will be on the reactions of the ICC and the concerned countries on this issue in the coming days.
It should be noted that the ICC has excluded Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup. Scotland has now been included in the World Cup in its place. The ICC had clearly stated that there would be no changes to the World Cup schedule and venues. Ultimately, Bangladesh was dropped.
