World Cup 2023: SA Vs AFG: Van Der Dussen Shines As South Africa Registers Victory Against Afghanistan

South Africa has continued their dominance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by handing a 5-wicket defeat to Afghanistan at  Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.

In pursuit of 245 runs, the Protese men chased down the target in 47. 3 overs were helped by a brilliant fifty from Rassie van der Dussen. 

The South African openers gave a steady start by scoring 57 runs in the first mandatory powerplay. The batting duo added 64 runs for the first wicket partnership. Mujeeb Ur Rahman provided the first breakthrough by dismissing South African skipper Temba Bavuma (24). The Protese men were in a tricky situation as Mohammad Nabi injected another blow dismissing Quinton de Kock (41). Aiden Markram combined with Rassie van der Dussen to add a run stand for the third wicket before Rashid Khan was dismissed the latter. RVD and Andile Phehlukwayo added an unbeaten 65-run stand to seize another compelling victory in the ongoing tournament. 

Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi claimed 2 wickets each while claimed one. 

Omarzai's fighting knock

Earlier, Azmatullah Omarzai's fighting knock helped Afghanistan finish on 244/10 in 50 overs as South Africa dominated the innings majorly. He remained unbeaten on 97 as he smashed seven boundaries and three maximums. 

Coetzee claims 4-fer

Gerald Coetzee was the pick of bowlers from his side, claiming a four-wicket haul while Keshav Maharaj dismissed two batters for the Proteas.
