Andhra Pradesh Tragedy: 14 Killed as Bus Bursts into Flames After Dumper Crash (Image Courtesy: ANI)
Andhra Pradesh: A terrible road accident took place this morning in Raivaram area near Markapuram, Andhra Pradesh. A private travels bus and a gravel-laden tipper lorry collided head-on, following which the bus immediately caught fire.
So far 13 people have died in this accident. Many passengers got trapped inside the bus and burnt to death. The number of injured is also quite large and the condition of some is said to be critical.
This accident happened at around 6 in the morning. The bus was going from Nirmal in Telangana towards Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The tipper lorry was coming from the opposite direction and there was a sharp collision between the two vehicles. The intensity of the collision was so high that both vehicles immediately caught fire.
The rescue team had to face a lot of difficulty due to fire and smoke. Many bodies were burnt inside the bus itself. The fire brigade and police team brought the fire under control after a lot of effort. The injured were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep sorrow over this incident. He expressed condolences for the dead and directed to provide better treatment to the injured. Expressing concern, the CM said that the death toll may increase further. He has asked the officials to thoroughly investigate the accident and submit a detailed report.
Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramaprasad Reddy said that both the bus and the lorry had caught fire. He said that the government is working on safety measures to reduce the incidents of fire.
This accident is very painful. It has been proved once again what a huge cost the speeding of vehicles and carelessness on the road can exact. Wish speedy recovery to the injured and deepest condolences to the families. Such misfortune incidents remind us that road safety is a must.
