Bengaluru Man Allegedly Gropes And Slaps Woman After She Rejects His Instagram Advances

New Delhi: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly groped and slapped in full public view after she rejected repeated advances from a man she knew through Instagram. The shocking encounter, caught on CCTV near a paying-guest accommodation in Bengaluru, has sparked fresh outrage over women's safety in the city.

Around 3:20 pm on December 22, the woman was standing beside a scooty, believed to be an online ride, when the man arrived in a car and confronted her. The man, identified by police as 26-year-old Naveen Kumar, had been in contact with her after connecting on Instagram, but the woman had made it clear she was not interested in pursuing any relationship.

How did the assault unfold?

The CCTV footage shows the man stepping out of the car and confronting the woman. He is seen taking her purse and checking its contents before arguing with the woman and then assaulting her.

In the footage, he can be seen slapping, groping, and pulling her along the road. The woman tries to resist and push him away, but the man continues the attack for several moments. What has disturbed many viewers is that the assault happened in daylight, with people around, yet no one immediately stepped in to stop it.

What action has the police taken?

After the woman approached the police, an FIR was registered and the accused was taken into custody. Further investigation is underway, officials said.
