People have been following ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ for some time now. But on Tuesday, the Maharashtra government announced cricketing icon and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar as the brand ambassador of ‘Swachh Mukh Abhiyan’ in the state.

According to the information, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with Sachin Tendulkar. Notably, the former Indian cricketer will be the brand ambassador for the next five years of the campaign.

Deputy chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis asserted the impact on society if they choose Sachin as the brand ambassador for oral hygiene. Fadnavis said that when big celebrities promote cancer-causing tobacco, it changes society. So, they decided to choose Sachin to create awareness among the youth.

Taking it to Twitter, the deputy chief minister wrote, “Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar becomes the ‘Smile Ambassador’ of Maharashtra! 😊Such an apt personality for spreading smiles! Witnessed signing of MoU for this Govt of Maharashtra’s initiative on awareness for ‘oral health’. Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar, Minister Girish ji Mahajan, Govt officials were present too. Thankful to Sachin Ji for being a part of this important project. This will greatly help prevent the ‘pre-cancer’ conditions prevalent in school/college students nowadays and help reduce and prevent tobacco addiction. When a personality like Sachin will communicate and tell the youth, the impact will be huge. So, as we say ‘Most of the battles can be won just by a smile’, we will fight hard this battle too and save our youth from the menace of addiction and cancer !”

During the event, Sachin also emphasised oral hygiene and explained how he maintained it throughout his career. He said, “I remember when I was young I used to play many sports I used to play cricket too while growing up, I understood that disciplined life is very important in maintaining health.” He also expressed his happiness for the association.
