Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho Gaucho arrived in Kolkata on Sunday and wasted no time in making his presence felt. He met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and gifted her a jersey on Monday.

Ronaldinho’s trip to Kolkata will involve his participation in various events and the Kolkata’s grand Durga Puja celebrations. During his two-day stay, he is likely to meet with former Indian cricket team skipper and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

Inaguration of ‘Durga Puja Pandal’ and ‘Ronaldinho’s R10 Academy’

Earlier in the day, the 43-year-old football maestro inaugurated the Sreebhumi Durga Puja Pandal. His visit includes an exhibition match between Diamond Harbour FC and Sree Bhumi Sporting Club at the Bata Maidan and Stadium in Maheshtala scheduled on October 17. He also inaugurated the ‘Ronaldinho’s R10 Academy’ in Kolkata where his fans thronged to get a glimpse of the 2002 World Cup winner.

The Brazilian footballer received a warm welcome after landing at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. This is the first visit to the football-crazy city that has hosted many football legends of the world sport, including Pele, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi.
