New Delhi: Hari Nagar Police in Delhi’s West District have arrested a 56-year-old woman in connection with a series of alleged residential thefts, solving six theft and burglary cases registered in the Hari Nagar and Vikaspuri police station areas. The investigation led to the recovery of cash, gold and silver jewellery, watches, gifts, identification documents belonging to a victim’s family, burglary tools and a large bunch of keys. A car allegedly purchased with proceeds from the thefts has also been recovered.
West District Deputy Commissioner of Police Hareshwar V. Swami said the investigation began following the registration of FIR No. 280/2026 on October 7, 2026. The complainant, Tanveer Singh, had reported a theft at his residence.
Police subsequently examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas and used technical surveillance to identify the suspect. The woman, identified as Neelam Devi, was arrested from Vikaspuri.
According to police, investigators analysed available CCTV recordings and technical inputs to trace the suspect. The evidence helped the team identify Neelam Devi and locate her in Vikaspuri.
Following her arrest, police investigations reportedly established links between the suspect and six theft and burglary cases in the Hari Nagar and Vikaspuri areas.
The recoveries included valuables allegedly stolen from residential properties, along with tools and other items that investigators are examining as part of the ongoing probe.
During questioning and subsequent investigation, police reportedly learnt that the stolen jewellery had been sold to Vikram Anand, a jeweller residing in Inderpuri.
Police recovered the jewellery in question from him. Empty jewellery boxes and pouches were also seized and are being examined as potential evidence in the case.
Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the alleged purchase of the ornaments and examining whether other individuals were involved in handling or disposing of the stolen property.
The operation was carried out by a team from Hari Nagar Police Station comprising Sub-Inspector Vikas Kundu, Head Constable Hazari Lal and Constable Pawan.
The team worked under the supervision of the station house officer and the guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rajouri Garden, Sharat C. Nirmal. West District DCP Hareshwar V. Swami monitored the overall operation.
